No, I want games!”, “ Miss, the game should be like this…..”, ( mentioning the steps; creating their own games.)  “ Oh games? Yes, that sounds great!”, “hmmm, …..” , “Games? Yes yes yes!!.” Those were some responses of my students ( aged 7 – 13 years old)  when they wanted to have something different in class. I was amazed of how different they acted to the questions I asked or suggested I offered. None of the students have exactly the same responses or acts. This should be understood as each person has different characters ( personality) such as Sanguine, choleric,  melancholic, and phlegmatic. It takes sometimes to understand people who have different personality as we tend to talk to them based on our mindset, not THEIRS. ( Well, not that I am talking as a personality expert, but it is just so interesting an idea to learn people’s characters that you can finally understand them better and better.). Here, I summarized  from this book that tells about characters.  Knowing different characters will help you communicate with anyone ( your children, spouse, girlfriend or boyfriend, friends, colleagues, parents etc.) hopefully this help, so that there won’t be any big misunderstanding when you communicate with the ones whom you love so dearly.

Description : Sanguine based in OXFORD dictionary is described as “ cheerfully optimistic” “ in medieval medicine-having a predominance of blood among the bodily humours, supposedly marked by a ruddy complexion and an optimistic disposition.”

Babyhood            

A sanguine baby has big bright eyes. She is a babbling lover and responsive , has big curiosity on something or someone, wants to be accompanied, loves to show-off. When a sanguine baby is ignored she will cry to get the attention from  people.

Childhood

A sanguine boy/ girl is very imaginative and cheerful ( this what makes people love her / him). S(he) likes to have fun and talks ( hmm more than 7000 words or 2000 words?  hehe).But, S(he) is surely absent-minded, and unmanageable. (Just for a note; I know of a friend who belongs to this type; she often forgets where she puts her car key and when she is around, suddenly we pay attention attentively to her stories, so we were like an audience who are listening to a great story teller, she is such a good entertainer and she always has new stories to tell. If you belong to a sanguine type you like compliments  and wants to have many of them. As this person likes to have fun, she gets bored easily if she goes through the same activities all day.

Teenager

A cheerleader! There she is- a sanguine type. She is popular at school because of being a cheerleader. When a sanguine teenager knows people are happy with her or his stories, s(he) becomes excited as s(he) wants to please people. The weaknesses of them is that sometimes they can be deceitful, and uncontrollable ( the reason is that ; A sanguine type needs acceptance as that is  her or his basic emotional needs; if she doesn’t get that, she will find people who will give her/ his that acceptance ; no matter who the people are and this may lead to bad relationships that s(he) might not realize.) Do you like gossiping? Hmm then you could be a sanguine person. Do you like overwhelming compliments? Hehe then you are a sanguine type ( everybody likes compliments though, but a sanguine type needs this more  or s(he) won’t please you anymore!)

If you are a sanguine type you like to create new adventures in your life, so it won’t be boring. If your friends seem to be untidy, hmm maybe you should pull your anger back before criticizing her / him as s(he) might be a sanguine person- an untidy person. S(he)likes tidiness though,  but she just can’t manage it sometimes.

Oh, boy! That’s quite a long explanation for such a small blog, hehe. So, are you a Sanguine person then?
